The Compact for Young People in Humanitarian Action (Youth Compact) is a significant collaboration of over 60 humanitarian actors. Its website is a crucial portal for resources and networking, serving as both an educational resource and a collaborative hub for its extensive network.
Job Purpose
This Online Assignment is part of the 'Youth Compact 2026' initiative, aiming to transform the Youth Compact website into a dynamic storytelling platform. The goal is to enhance communication of the mission to transform the humanitarian system and support youth-led humanitarian action. By combining content creation with rigorous editing, the Online Volunteers will ensure the platform effectively reaches diverse global stakeholders, including non-native English speakers. This role is vital for restructuring the website to function as an accessible educational resource and a streamlined collaborative hub for internal members, supporting the priorities and needs of young people affected by crises.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteers will undertake a comprehensive technical audit, restructure the site map, and complete a full layout redesign of the Youth Compact website (www.youthcompact.info) using SquareSpace. Key duties include leveraging CMS expertise, particularly in SquareSpace, to design, build, and manage the website. This involves applying strong UX/UI and Information Architecture principles to create logical navigation. Proficiency in frontend web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) will be used for customizing CMS templates. Additionally, volunteers will develop training materials or conduct sessions for non-technical users to facilitate a smooth digital handover. A collaborative approach is essential, working closely with content creators and editorial teams to integrate technical design with narrative strategy, while also demonstrating the ability to work independently, present concepts clearly, and meet deadlines.
Work Experience
Proven experience designing, building, and managing websites on SquareSpace or similar modern CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Webflow, Wix) is required. Strong expertise in user experience (UX) design, web design, and information architecture is essential. Proficiency in frontend web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for CMS template customization is necessary. Experience in setting up localization/multilingual features is highly desired.
Skills
