Job Purpose
This role supports the WFF Youth Film Festival's Film Impact Screenings initiative by translating subtitles from English into Laotian. The purpose is to enhance the accessibility and reach of film content and related materials to a wider audience in Asia and the Pacific, particularly for the International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF) 2026. By making content available in Laotian, the volunteer will help engage youth, community organizations, and partners, fostering dialogue on agrifood systems, gender equality, and youth empowerment, thereby amplifying the initiative's impact and promoting collective action.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is to translate subtitle files for selected films from English into Laotian. This includes reviewing translations for accuracy, readability, and cultural relevance, ensuring the original meaning and intent are preserved. The role also involves adapting terminology and expressions as needed. Volunteers will contribute to quality assurance through peer review and feedback. Additionally, there is a responsibility to translate Film Impact Screening toolkits and guidance materials into Laotian, supporting broader engagement with WFF content across Asia and the Pacific.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is required. However, candidates should be between 18-35 years old. University students, youth organization members, and young individuals are encouraged to apply. Experience in translation or localization is beneficial.
Skills
Key skills include advanced or native proficiency in written and spoken Laotian, and intermediate to advanced English proficiency. The ability to translate accurately, ensuring cultural relevance and preserving original meaning, is essential. Strong attention to detail for quality assurance and peer review is also important.
