UNDP China focuses on local solutions to development challenges, poverty reduction, governance, environmental sustainability, and South-South Cooperation. In an era of rapid technological advancement, enhancing digital and scientific literacy is crucial for progress, especially in rural education, where it contributes to equitable development and empowers marginalized groups.

Job Purpose

This assignment aims to engage volunteer teams to deliver digital literacy and SDG-focused classes to adolescent girls in rural primary schools in China. Building on the 'HER Digital Future Bootcamp' initiative, volunteers will organize 5-7 day summer creation camps. The purpose is to enhance participants' cooperative learning skills, foster awareness of rural community issues, and empower them to propose practical, SDG-aligned solutions using digital thinking. The initiative seeks to cultivate curiosity, digital thinking, and a passion for science in the next generation, contributing to equitable education and gender equality.

Responsibilities

Volunteer teams will deliver digital literacy and SDG-focused classes to 480 adolescent girls in rural primary schools, organizing 5-7 day "HER Digital Future Bootcamp" summer creation camps and related online activities. Key responsibilities include participating in online interviews and assessments, engaging in Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions to understand the activity toolkit and roles, and collaboratively designing and implementing camp activities. Volunteers will collect real-time stories and photos, coordinate participant feedback, and guide students in submitting at least three innovation proposals aligned with SDGs. A strong commitment to teamwork, social work, and community service is essential.

Work Experience

While specific years of experience are not mandated, a strong commitment to teamwork, social work, and community service is required. Familiarity with rural China's communities and education is beneficial for connecting with young girls and adapting facilitation. Prior teaching, facilitation, summer camp, or volunteer tutoring experience is highly preferred, as are backgrounds in education or STEM.

Skills

Essential skills include a strong commitment to teamwork and social work, adaptability to diverse environments, and a genuine passion for girls' empowerment. Candidates should possess good interpersonal, networking, and communication skills. Excellent computer proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media) is required. Priority is given to those skilled in digital literacy, SDGs, and STEM. Fluency in Chinese (native level) is mandatory.
