Disability Inclusion Specialist
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Egypt, established in 1991, works with government ministries, UN partners, and civil society on various migration-related issues including labour migration, counter-trafficking, and health. IOM is committed to advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion, with a specific focus on its Disability Inclusion Strategy (2025-2028). This strategy aims to embed disability inclusion across all policies, programmes, and operations, aligning with global standards and ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities are upheld.
Job Purpose
This UNV assignment aims to support the IOM Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (RO MENA) in advancing the implementation of IOM's Disability Inclusion Strategy. The role will focus on strengthening coherence between global commitments and operational practices, and reinforcing IOM's contribution to regional and inter-agency disability inclusion agendas. The Specialist will contribute to enhancing inclusive programming, workplace practices, partnerships, and evidence-based learning to ensure disability inclusion is systematically embedded in IOM's work in a sustainable and rights-based manner. This initiative specifically targets candidates from unrepresented countries, offering valuable hands-on experience within leading UN partner organizations.
Responsibilities
The UNV Specialist on Disability Inclusion will advance inter-agency collaboration by engaging in regional coordination mechanisms and strengthening structured engagement with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs). This includes contributing to joint inter-agency products and facilitating internal coordination for joint initiatives. The role will support disability inclusion across IOM's programme areas by providing technical support for mainstreaming disability in programme design, implementation, and review, and assisting country offices in sharing good practices. Furthermore, the Specialist will promote disability inclusion in IOM's workplace by supporting inclusive workplace practices, organizing awareness-raising and capacity-building initiatives, and assisting HR in strengthening inclusive recruitment. The role also involves integrating disability inclusion into cross-cutting areas, such as supporting disability-disaggregated data collection, strengthening inclusive monitoring and evaluation, reinforcing intersectional approaches with gender and protection, and developing learning products on cross-cutting linkages.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of professional work experience is required, at the national or international level, in disability inclusion, social inclusion, development programming, migration, human rights, or protection. Experience supporting disability-inclusive initiatives and working with UN or international organizations is desirable. Knowledge of disability inclusion principles and frameworks like CRPD and UNDIS is also beneficial.

Excellent oral and written communication, drafting, formulation, and reporting skills are essential, along with strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity for inclusive collaboration. Proficiency in MS Office and database management is also necessary.
