Organizational Context
UNOPS operates globally, focusing on fragile and conflict-affected contexts. The West Africa and Sahel Multi-Country Office (WAMCO), based in Dakar, supports 16 countries in areas like health, climate change, and infrastructure. In Côte d'Ivoire, UNOPS partners with the Ministry of Health to provide renewable energy solutions in rural areas, enhancing health services and contributing to sustainable development goals.
Job Purpose
The Electrical Engineer applies fundamental electrical engineering concepts to gather and analyze data, supporting specialists and managers in quality assurance, subcontractor management, risk assessment, and capacity building. This role is crucial for ensuring the successful implementation of UNOPS' electrical infrastructure projects, specifically focusing on the installation of solar energy systems in rural health centers. The engineer's contributions directly impact the improvement of healthcare access and the achievement of sustainable development objectives related to health and clean energy.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include ensuring the quality of solar panel, inverter, and cabling installations by monitoring work on-site and verifying compliance with technical specifications. The role involves conducting and supervising commissioning tests to validate performance and safety, and documenting any non-conformities with corrective actions. The Electrical Engineer will manage and supervise subcontractors, ensuring adherence to contract terms, schedules, and quality standards, and validating their deliverables. Risk management is essential, involving the analysis of technical risks, supervision of electrical safety, and reporting on mitigation measures. Furthermore, the engineer will train local technicians and partners on solar system maintenance and management, document best practices, and contribute to knowledge sharing within UNOPS communities.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a significant portion dedicated to solar systems or renewable energy projects, is required for candidates with a Bachelor's degree.
