Organizational Context
The UNOPS Africa Regional Office supports over 250 projects across 40 countries, focusing on fragile and conflict-affected settings. In South Sudan, UNOPS has been instrumental since 2005, delivering critical infrastructure projects to improve access to essential services and livelihoods. The UNMISS Transport Section, supported by UNOPS, ensures mission personnel and equipment mobility through vehicle services and maintenance.
Job Purpose
The Driver's primary purpose is to provide safe, reliable, and secure transportation for authorized personnel within UNMISS. This role is crucial for facilitating staff movement across various operational bases, ensuring the mission can effectively meet its mandate. The incumbent must demonstrate exceptional professionalism, courtesy, and discretion, while effectively interacting with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. This position contributes directly to the operational efficiency and safety of UNMISS by ensuring timely and secure transit for personnel and essential items.
Responsibilities
The Driver is responsible for providing secure and reliable driving services for UNMISS personnel and for the transportation of mail, documents, and other items. This includes maintaining the assigned vehicle through daily checks of oil, water, battery, and brakes, performing minor repairs, and ensuring the vehicle remains clean. Accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs and providing input for vehicle maintenance plans and reports are essential. The Driver must ensure all necessary documents, including insurance and vehicle logs, are current and readily available, along with a first-aid kit and spare parts. In the event of an accident, the Driver must immediately take the required steps as per rules and regulations.
Work Experience
Four years of relevant driving experience is required. A valid driver's license is mandatory. Experience in lieu of a secondary school certificate is acceptable.
