Gender Equality Officer
Organizational Context
The UNOPS Africa Regional Office oversees over 250 projects in 40 countries, focusing on fragile settings. The Mozambique office is a key partner in advancing national development priorities and supporting SDGs, particularly in areas affected by conflict and climate challenges. This role is part of a USD 66 million World Bank-funded flood response project focused on agricultural and fisheries recovery in six affected provinces.
Job Purpose
The Gender Equality Officer is crucial for implementing the project's Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) Action Plan. This involves close collaboration with government and implementing partners to monitor activities and indicators, ensuring mitigation measures align with environmental and social safeguards. The role provides essential technical support for gender mainstreaming, facilitates survivor-centered services through case management teams, and builds partner capacity. Ultimately, the officer promotes gender equality and social inclusion throughout the project lifecycle, contributing to effective and equitable project outcomes in the flood-affected regions of Mozambique.
Responsibilities
The Gender Equality Officer will support the rollout and implementation of the project’s GBV/PSEA Action Plan, monitoring partner activities and reporting on key indicators. This includes conducting field visits to verify mitigation measures, contributing to general project reporting, and ensuring adherence to the Code of Conduct. The role involves maintaining a service provider map for referrals and managing GBV/PSEA-related data and documentation. Additionally, the officer will collaborate with case management teams to ensure survivor-centered services, support the development of service availability messages, and provide technical assistance for gender mainstreaming through training and workshops. Engagement in gender equality networking and representing the project in relevant forums are also key duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in GBV/PSEA programming, project implementation, monitoring, and reporting is essential. Proficiency in collaboration tools like MS Office and G-Suite is also required. Experience in multicultural or UN system environments within a developing country, or in development/humanitarian contexts, is desirable.
