Job Purpose
The Senior Policy Advisor will provide high-level political and diplomatic advice to the Executive Director, conducting research and analysis on strategic policy issues to advance UNOPS' mandate and strategic plan. This role involves developing briefings, key messages, and talking points to support executive decision-making and organizational positioning. Collaboration with key UNOPS offices, including UN System and Intergovernmental Affairs, Partnerships and Futures Group, and Communications Group, is essential for effective implementation and strategic alignment.
Responsibilities
The Senior Policy Advisor is responsible for providing high-level political analysis and substantive policy advice on development, humanitarian issues, financing, and multilateral reform processes, including the UN80 agenda. This includes monitoring global trends, preparing strategic briefs for the Executive Director, and supporting UNOPS' engagement in UN-wide reform processes and international conferences. The role also involves representing UNOPS in high-level meetings, fostering a culture of trust and accountability, and contributing to knowledge management and thought leadership on sustainable development and the future of the multilateral system.
Work Experience
Extensive experience is required in providing strategic policy advice, engaging with senior government and multilateral officials, conducting political and policy analysis, and drafting substantive briefing materials for senior leaders. Experience working within inter-governmental, international, or UN system organizations is also necessary.
