Job Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer applies fundamental engineering concepts to gather and analyze data, supporting specialists and managers in the design, review, and supervision of mechanical engineering aspects of projects. This role involves interpreting rules and procedures, making initial recommendations based on straightforward analysis, and preparing documentation inputs. The position serves as the first level of "thought leadership" in mechanical engineering, contributing to the successful execution of infrastructure and rehabilitation projects within the UN framework.
Responsibilities
Provide mechanical and plumbing engineering support for potable water supply and irrigation infrastructure, including pumps, pipework, and associated components. Contribute to the design and review of mechanical installations in buildings, such as HVAC, fire safety, and sanitary systems. Assist in preparing and evaluating tender documents, including technical specifications and BOQs. Perform mechanical engineering calculations, select equipment, and develop scopes of work. Review contractors' submittals and support testing and commissioning. Conduct project assessments and quality assurance by reviewing design briefs, reports, drawings, and specifications to ensure alignment with project requirements and international standards. Participate in site inspections and technical assessments. Utilize drafting and modeling software like AutoCAD and Revit, and support the organization and archiving of engineering documentation.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of two years of experience in mechanical engineering design, supervision, and/or construction for medium to large-scale infrastructure projects. Experience in project assessment, design, and supervision for rehabilitation projects is also necessary. Demonstrated experience using AutoCAD for mechanical drawings and proficiency with HAP or equivalent design software are essential.
