Organizational Context

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) operates as an operational arm of the UN, supporting peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development projects globally. The Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) within UNOPS provides project management, procurement, and infrastructure services. This role supports the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Bolivia, which focuses on preventing drug and crime threats and strengthening national capacities through technical assistance in areas like drug control, organized crime, corruption, and justice reform.

Job Purpose

The Senior Project Management Support Assistant will provide crucial administrative and coordination support for a UNODC project in Bolivia aimed at strengthening local economies and controlling the expansion of excess coca cultivation. This involves promoting sustainable agroforestry systems, organic production, and good environmental practices, primarily focusing on the coffee value chain in Los Yungas. The role directly contributes to enhancing the capacities of beneficiary producers, conserving natural resources, and improving the livelihoods of local communities by generating viable economic alternatives. The assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator and the general oversight of the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Audit Officer.

Responsibilities

Provide administrative and coordination support for project planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting, adhering to standard operating procedures. Track project progress, expected results, contracts, travel, and workshops, ensuring timely updates and accurate documentation. Assist in preparing reports, informational materials, and meeting minutes. Maintain tracking tools and ensure project data is current and archived. Participate in team meetings to report on progress and coordination needs. Support beneficiary training on environmental best practices, food security, organic production, and Fair Trade standards. Implement and monitor communal nurseries, horticultural gardens, and agroforestry plots, promoting sustainable coffee and forest species management. Coordinate logistics for meetings, workshops, and events, including travel and accommodation arrangements. Manage travel authorizations, expense reports, and reimbursements. Support procurement processes, including preparing requests and verifying receipt of materials. Assist in reviewing tenders, evaluations, and contract administration. Organize logistics for high-level meetings and donor activities, preparing minutes and tracking actions. Systematize experiences, best practices, and lessons learned to contribute to knowledge management and technical information dissemination.

Work Experience

Required: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with a secondary education, or 1 year of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, in project support/assistance related to sustainable production and natural resource conservation. Demonstrated proficiency in collaboration and productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite) and web-based management systems. Desirable: Experience working within a UN system organization.
