Organizational Context
The UNOPS Austria Multi-Country Office (AUMCO) in Vienna supports operations across 12 countries in South-East Europe, Türkiye, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia. It delivers technical expertise, operational support, and sustainable infrastructure solutions. The office is a regional and thematic centre of excellence, particularly for UNOPS’ global Water, Environment, and Climate portfolio, and is currently involved in a GEF-funded project focused on hazardous waste management in Central Asia.
Job Purpose
The Project Management Support Associate plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective planning, coordination, and delivery of project activities. This position provides essential support to senior project leads, collaborating closely with stakeholders to facilitate operations and maintain efficient project execution. The associate's contributions are vital for aligning project activities with the established results framework and internal UNOPS processes, ultimately contributing to the successful implementation of complex projects, such as hazardous waste management initiatives in Central Asia.
Responsibilities
The role involves comprehensive support across several key areas. In Planning and Preparation, the associate assists with stakeholder engagement, training needs assessment, budget preparation, procurement processes, and risk identification. For Training and Implementation Support, responsibilities include coordinating logistics for events, supporting training material development, liaising with service providers, and facilitating communications. In Monitoring, Reporting, and Compliance, the associate develops monitoring tools, collects and archives documentation, contributes to report drafting, tracks milestones, and ensures adherence to UNOPS policies. Operational and Logistical Support includes coordinating procurement, travel, and HR-related tasks, as well as managing project files. Finally, the associate contributes to Knowledge Building and Sharing by supporting training sessions and participating in knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Work Experience
Required experience includes work in project management or related areas, along with demonstrable proficiency in collaboration and productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite) and web-based management systems. Experience working in multicultural environments or UN system organizations in a developing country, as well as experience in development or humanitarian contexts, is desirable.
