Job Purpose

The Associate Construction Management Engineer plays a crucial role in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of infrastructure projects within UNOPS Sudan. This position ensures that all construction activities adhere strictly to design specifications, quality standards, project timelines, and safety regulations. The engineer provides essential on-site technical oversight, manages contractor performance, facilitates coordination among stakeholders, and maintains accurate reporting and documentation in compliance with UNOPS and donor requirements. This role directly contributes to the successful delivery of infrastructure initiatives that enhance community well-being and support sustainable development goals in Sudan.

Responsibilities

Provide technical assistance and construction oversight by reviewing project plans, drawings, and specifications. Monitor on-site construction activities to ensure compliance with design standards, technical specifications, and contractual obligations. Conduct quality inspections, verify material compliance, and monitor safety and environmental standards according to UNOPS HSSE requirements. Support the resolution of technical issues and verify contractor progress, preparing and reviewing interim payment certificates. Coordinate effectively with end-users, contractors, consultants, and local authorities to ensure smooth project implementation. Organize and participate in project meetings, prepare minutes, and track action items. Monitor progress against schedules, report deviations, and assist in preparing technical and progress reports. Provide operational and logistical support, maintain accurate project documentation, and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Work Experience

Requires relevant experience in building construction, site supervision, or infrastructure project management. Experience in quality control, monitoring, and reporting within construction projects is essential. Proficiency in collaboration tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite) and web-based management systems is required. Experience in multicultural or UN environments, humanitarian contexts, and project documentation is desirable.
