Civil Engineer

The Amman Multi-Country Office (MCO) specifically supports these efforts through infrastructure, procurement, and project management services, working with governments and UN agencies to advance SDGs.
Job Purpose
The Civil Engineer is responsible for managing and supervising infrastructure works, including design, construction, and procurement activities, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards. This role embeds best practices in technical design and construction management throughout the project lifecycle, from planning to handover. The incumbent must uphold strict compliance with Health, Safety, Social, and Environmental (HSSE) standards and Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH) requirements. Strong technical expertise, proactive resource management, and a commitment to integrity, transparency, and effective stakeholder coordination are essential for all civil engineering activities.
Responsibilities
Manage and supervise civil engineering projects from design to completion, ensuring alignment with project requirements, timelines, and budgets. Support project planning, scheduling, and implementation of rehabilitation and construction activities. Review and provide input on design briefs, technical documentation, and cost estimates, ensuring compliance with international standards and UNOPS guidelines. Conduct on-site technical assessments and inspections to ensure construction work adheres to quality standards and project specifications. Monitor contractors' performance, verify quantities, and review technical submittals. Ensure full compliance with UNOPS HSSE policies, environmental safeguards, and PSEAH standards. Maintain accurate records of site activities and progress, submitting timely reports. Support project closure through commissioning, handover, and archiving of documentation. Contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives and learning sessions.
Work Experience
Requires relevant experience in civil engineering, structural works, construction technology, or construction supervision and monitoring. Experience working in multicultural environments or UN system organizations in a developing country is desirable, as is experience in development or humanitarian contexts.
