Operating globally with hubs in New York, Geneva, and Vienna, GPO collaborates with governments, financial institutions, and UN agencies on diverse services including project and fund management. This role specifically supports the UNODC Global Programme on Crimes Affecting the Environment within the UNODC Programme Office in Peru.
Job Purpose
The Project Management Support Associate (Environmental Technician) provides essential operational and technical support for the planning, coordination, and execution of project activities focused on environmental crime. Working under senior project staff, this role facilitates effective project implementation by assisting with stakeholder coordination, communication, and ensuring activities align with project goals and organizational procedures. The position plays a key role in delivering technical assistance, monitoring progress, and contributing to capacity-building efforts aimed at combating illegal logging, mining, and other deforestation drivers.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include supporting project planning by mapping stakeholders and coordinating with relevant institutions in the environmental, forestry, and justice sectors. The role assists in developing project documents, providing technical and analytical input, and preparing materials for meetings and technical assistance activities. Logistical support for workshops, trainings, and meetings is crucial, as is assisting in the preparation of technical materials and presentations. The associate will also support coordination with government counterparts and experts, manage communication flows, and maintain project tools for tracking progress and activities. Furthermore, the role involves contributing to monitoring, reporting, and compliance, including data collection, drafting reports, and ensuring adherence to UNOPS and UNODC procedures. Operational support for procurement, travel, and HR requirements, along with managing project files, is also expected. Finally, the position contributes to knowledge management by documenting lessons learned and best practices.
Work Experience
Required experience includes operational and technical support for planning, managing, and delivering technical assistance in environmental projects or natural resource management. Proficiency in collaboration and web-based information management tools is essential. Desired experience includes working in multicultural environments or UN organizations in developing countries, supporting training activities, and experience within law enforcement or justice sectors.
