Energy Officer, India and Mission Efficiency (Retainer)
Organizational Context
The UNOPS Global Portfolios Office (GPO) supports sustainable development, climate action, and peacebuilding globally. Hosted by UNOPS, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) works to accelerate energy transitions in emerging and developing countries, aiming to end energy poverty, double energy efficiency, and expand renewable energy. This role sits within the Solutions Unit, focusing on in-country energy efficiency activities.
Job Purpose
The Energy Officer will serve as a technical resource to advance SEforALL's energy efficiency initiatives in India, particularly under the Mission Efficiency program. This involves supporting the design and delivery of energy efficiency action plans, facilitating government engagement, and coordinating the implementation of various programs like demand flexibility, appliance replacement, ESCO projects, shared cooling, and building efficiency interventions. The role is crucial for driving India's commitment to doubling energy efficiency and will contribute to developing data analytics, policy briefs, and supporting resource mobilization for scaling energy efficiency investments.
Responsibilities
The role involves technical analysis and assessment, including supporting energy efficiency sectoral modeling, roadmap development, and contributing to a national energy efficiency tracking dashboard. It also includes assessing demand flexibility potential and ESCO market development. Programme design and implementation support are key, focusing on cooling appliance replacement pilots and scale-up frameworks, as well as coordinating behavior change programs. Additionally, the role contributes to advocacy and knowledge support by developing awareness materials, project documentation, impact assessments, and representing SEforALL in relevant forums.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of experience in energy efficiency, demand-side management, building energy codes, or related areas is required. Experience in the technical and economic aspects of energy efficiency programs and working with energy agencies for program implementation is essential. Desirable experience includes policy and program development for energy efficiency, sustainable cooling, and stakeholder engagement.
