It partners with nations and institutions to implement global environmental and climate agreements, including the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals, by operationalizing and scaling up partner programs.
Job Purpose
The NDC Partnership Country Engagement Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between the NDC Partnership and the country, facilitating seamless engagement and coordination. This role is crucial for supporting the country's climate action efforts, particularly in implementing its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. The coordinator bridges communication between the NDC Partnership Support Unit, various partners, and the Mauritanian government, ensuring alignment and effective collaboration towards national climate goals and sustainable development.
Responsibilities
The role involves strategic stakeholder coordination and engagement, supporting the government in integrating climate priorities into national planning, budgeting, and international cooperation processes. This includes identifying and mapping key national actors and development partners, informing them of planned actions, and collaborating to avoid duplication and ensure harmonized support. Resource mobilization is a key function, assisting government bodies in preparing funding requests and proposals aligned with national priorities. The coordinator facilitates matchmaking between government needs and partner resources, providing guidance to align climate projects with national strategies. Additionally, the role entails facilitating and monitoring the implementation of climate plans (NDC, LT-LEDS), organizing coordination meetings, and contributing to knowledge products. Capacity building for government officials on climate integration and NDC Partnership tools is also a responsibility.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of experience in the public and/or private sector, focusing on climate change, project management, stakeholder engagement, and donor relations. Experience with multilateral, national, and local climate governance processes, including NDCs, is essential. Familiarity with the national context of climate-related policies and strategies is required.
