Job Purpose

The Electrical Engineer role is crucial for the successful implementation and oversight of infrastructure projects, specifically focusing on the electrical components. This position ensures that all electrical installations, including solar panels and power systems, are executed according to design specifications, project timelines, and stringent safety and environmental standards. The engineer will be responsible for quality control, effective site management, and coordinating closely with contractors, design consultants, and internal stakeholders. The primary goal is to facilitate the timely, budget-compliant, and high-quality delivery of electrical infrastructure works, contributing to the overall project objectives and UNOPS's mandate.

Responsibilities

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality of electrical installations, including solar panels, inverters, and cabling, by closely monitoring subcontractors and verifying compliance with technical specifications. This includes conducting performance and safety tests, documenting non-conformities, and implementing corrective actions. The role involves managing and supervising electrical subcontractors, validating their deliverables, and recommending contract modifications when necessary. The engineer will also assess technical risks related to electrical systems, ensure adherence to international safety standards, and report on mitigation measures. Effective coordination with contractors, suppliers, local authorities, and partners is essential for project delivery. Additionally, the engineer will support project management by guiding site personnel, participating in coordination meetings, and fostering positive stakeholder relationships.

Work Experience

Required experience includes electrical engineering or related fields, with a proven track record in managing energy infrastructure projects, preferably in rural or remote settings. Experience working in multicultural environments or with UN organizations in developing countries is desirable, as is experience in development or humanitarian contexts. Specific experience in electrical engineering, particularly with solar systems or renewable energy projects, is highly recommended.
