Job Purpose
To provide reliable and safe driving services to project staff, consultants, and UNIDO personnel on mission, supporting the 'Skills for Decent Employment in Zambian Artisanal and Small-scale Mining' project in Luapula province. The role is crucial for the smooth operation of the Project Management Unit (PMU) by ensuring timely and secure transportation for project activities.
Responsibilities
Plan and coordinate daily vehicle scheduling and field mission logistics. Provide input on travel routes and safety. Maintain vehicle maintenance schedules. Drive project personnel and authorized individuals safely and securely. Adhere to traffic regulations and UN driving rules. Inspect and maintain the project vehicle's condition, cleanliness, and safety. Log all official travel, mileage, fuel consumption, and oil changes. Identify cost-effective sources for spare parts and service. Ensure vehicle security and compliance with UN/UNIDO security protocols. Take necessary steps in case of accidents. Support transport and logistics for outreach, awareness-raising, and capacity-building events. Assist in transporting materials and equipment. Report vehicle usage, mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance status regularly. Promptly report any vehicle issues, accidents, or security incidents. Deliver and collect official mail and documents. Meet and transport official personnel from points of arrival.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of experience as a driver. A good and safe driving record. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and skills in minor vehicle repair. Good knowledge of Luapula province and current road conditions. Proficiency in map reading and land navigation systems. Willingness to travel occasionally to remote locations. Experience driving government officials, UN staff, or diplomatic staff is desirable.
