Organizational Context

UNICEF operates in over 190 countries, dedicated to saving children's lives, defending their rights, and helping them reach their full potential. We are committed to promoting the rights of every child, viewing it as a calling rather than just a job. UNICEF offers diverse opportunities for professional and personal growth, fostering a sense of purpose while serving children globally.

Job Purpose

The internship aims to support UNICEF Algeria's communication and advocacy initiatives by focusing on child and youth engagement, the development of creative content, and youth-adapted communication strategies. Key areas of focus will include UNICEF@80 celebrations, priority observance days, the development of Child and Youth Advocates and a potential Youth Board, photography, child and youth media, and communication innovations informed by Brand Barometer insights. The intern will also contribute to communication and visibility efforts for approved partnerships, public events, and resource-mobilization opportunities, including those with the private sector. This supervised learning assignment will involve close coordination with youth and adolescent engagement capacities within the Education and Adolescent Development Programme and the Digital Transformation Associate.

Responsibilities

1. Planning and Youth Engagement: Conduct research to map youth networks, platforms, partners, and engagement opportunities. Maintain an integrated calendar for UNICEF@80, key observance days, campaigns, events, and youth engagement activities. Support the development of Child and Youth Advocates and a potential Youth Board through outreach, onboarding, engagement planning, and feedback mechanisms. Promote safe and inclusive participation for all children and young people, including girls, those with disabilities, and those from diverse backgrounds. 2. Creative Communication and Content: Draft youth-adapted social media content, web articles, captions, profiles, interview questions, and campaign materials for review. Support the ethical co-creation of photography, video, audio, written stories, and other child and youth media. Utilize audience insights and Brand Barometer data to propose relevant formats and channels for young audiences. Organize approved content and ensure adherence to UNICEF standards for branding, accessibility, safeguarding, consent, and ethical storytelling. 3. Workshops, Events, and Partnerships: Assist in the preparation and facilitation of creative workshops, consultations, and activities with children and young people. Prepare agendas, youth-friendly materials, feedback tools, activity summaries, and follow-up notes. Support communication and visibility for approved partnerships, resource-mobilization opportunities, and public events. Build constructive relationships with young participants, UNICEF colleagues, and approved partners under supervision. 4. Monitoring and Knowledge Management: Maintain a tracker of activities, participants, outputs, feedback, and follow-up actions. Organize a repository of approved content, resources, and consent documentation. Contribute to internal updates and document lessons learned. Prepare a final internship report and handover note.
