UNICEF offers diverse opportunities for professional and personal development.
Job Purpose
The National Qualitative Research Consultant will play a crucial role in a significant study investigating the long-term and intergenerational effects of Kenya's Cash Transfer for Orphan and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) program. This consultancy focuses on implementing two key qualitative research methodologies: Life Histories and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs). The Life Histories approach will gather detailed personal experiences of former CT-OVC beneficiaries, documenting their life events during and after program participation to understand their life trajectories and the program's impact. KIIs will engage with program stakeholders and policymakers to gather insights relevant to the study's research questions. This role is essential for providing a deep, nuanced understanding of the CT-OVC's enduring influence on individuals and families.
Responsibilities
Conducting Life Histories interviews with former CT-OVC beneficiaries to collect detailed accounts of their life events, experiences, and the perceived impact of the program on their wellbeing and development. Documenting these life histories thoroughly, ensuring accuracy and richness of information. Facilitating Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with relevant stakeholders, including government officials, development partners, community leaders, and program implementers, to gather their perspectives on the CT-OVC program and its effects. Transcribing and translating (if necessary) interview data from local languages into English. Ensuring ethical research practices are followed throughout the data collection process, including obtaining informed consent and maintaining confidentiality. Collaborating closely with the international consultant and the local firm to ensure the quality and consistency of data collection. Assisting in the analysis of qualitative data by identifying key themes, patterns, and insights emerging from the Life Histories and KIIs. Contributing to the drafting of research reports and publications by providing detailed qualitative findings and interpretations. Participating in regular team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and findings. Ensuring all data collected is organized, stored securely, and adheres to UNICEF's data protection policies.
