Job Purpose

The UNICEF Brazil office is seeking an individual consultant to perform a crucial update to its Multidimensional Child Poverty study. This consultancy involves integrating the 2025 data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD Contínua) into the study's existing time series, which currently spans 2017, 2018, 2019, 2023, and 2024. The consultant will strictly adhere to the established methodology, indicator definitions, analytical cuts, and reproducible scripts already developed for the study. The primary goal is to generate comparable estimates for 2025 and update the relevant tables, figures, key findings, and narrative analysis. This is a focused technical update, not intended for redesigning the methodology or expanding the analytical framework, unless minor technical adjustments are essential for maintaining comparability and are pre-approved by UNICEF.

Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for the technical update of the Multidimensional Child Poverty study by incorporating the 2025 PNAD Contínua data. This includes applying the existing methodology, indicator definitions, and analytical cuts to the new dataset. The consultant will develop reproducible scripts to ensure the analysis can be replicated and validated. A key task is to produce comparable estimates for 2025, aligning with the data from previous years. This will involve updating all relevant tables, figures, and the narrative analysis to reflect the new findings. The consultant must ensure that any necessary technical adjustments to preserve data comparability are minimal, strictly justified, and pre-approved by UNICEF. The consultant will also be responsible for translating the statistical results into clear and concise findings suitable for policy audiences. The assignment requires meticulous attention to detail to maintain the integrity and comparability of the study's findings over time. The consultant will work remotely for the duration of the one-month contract.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of professional experience in quantitative data analysis, production of statistics and indicators, or survey microdata analysis.

Skills

Experience with PNAD Contínua microdata (annual and thematic modules), Proficiency in survey weights and sample design procedures, Proficiency in statistical programming (R, Stata, or Python), Experience in poverty, multidimensional poverty, social indicators, or inequality analysis, Strong analytical writing skills, Ability to translate statistical results for policy audiences
