Organizational Context

UNICEF operates in over 190 countries, dedicated to saving children's lives, defending their rights, and helping them fulfill their potential. We are committed, passionate, and proud of our work, offering diverse opportunities for professional and personal development in a culture that values belonging and growth.

Job Purpose

This consultancy aims to analyze the intersections of climate hazards, conflict, and child displacement within PROSPECTS countries. The consultant will review and analyze historical and future displacement data, focusing on child demographics and associated risks. The goal is to identify locations where these factors converge, understand the consequences for children, and produce data-driven insights for UNICEF's report, "Climate, Conflict and Displacement: Future-proofing PROSPECTS for the Next Frontier of Displacement Crises." This involves cleaning, harmonizing, and analyzing data, developing disaggregation approaches, and using GIS for spatial analysis to inform resilience strategies, particularly concerning water security and WASH.

Responsibilities

The consultant will review and analyze historical data on disaster- and conflict-related internal displacement, refugee/IDP populations, child demographics, climate hazards, and urban growth. This includes cleaning and harmonizing data, developing and validating an age- and sex-disaggregation approach, and distinguishing new displacements from existing populations. The consultant will analyze future disaster displacement-risk model outputs, explaining assumptions and limitations. Using GIS and spatial methods, they will identify convergence points of climate hazards, conflict, displacement, child populations, urban growth, and service vulnerability indicators. The role involves producing publication-ready maps, charts, tables, and data files, and conducting desk research to interpret quantitative findings on the climate-conflict-displacement nexus and its consequences for children, including water security/WASH. The consultant will draft methodology and analytical inputs for the report, particularly on child displacement, hotspots, climate/conflict analysis, and water/WASH sections, revising them based on feedback and providing a handover package with documented workflows.
