Job Purpose

Madagascar faces significant nutrition challenges among school-age children and adolescents, with high rates of thinness and overweight. UNICEF Madagascar supports the government and partners in implementing a comprehensive School-Age Children and Adolescent Nutrition Programme. This programme aims to improve nutrition outcomes through strengthened policies, service delivery, social and behaviour change interventions, evidence generation, and cross-sectoral collaboration. The Nutrition Officer will contribute to planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on interventions to improve the nutritional status and well-being of this demographic. The role supports partnership development, knowledge generation, capacity building, and programme monitoring to accelerate progress towards UNICEF's mandate in Madagascar.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Nutrition Specialist, the Nutrition Officer will contribute to the planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of nutrition programmes focused on school-age children and adolescents in Madagascar. This includes supporting the development and execution of evidence-based, gender-responsive, and multisectoral interventions. The officer will work closely with government counterparts, development partners, UN agencies, civil society organizations, and other UNICEF sections to strengthen evidence-based programming and cross-sectoral collaboration. Key responsibilities include supporting partnership development, generating knowledge and evidence on nutrition, building capacity of stakeholders, and monitoring programme progress to ensure sustainable results for children and young people. The role is crucial in accelerating progress towards UNICEF's mandate of realizing the rights and potential of every child and adolescent in Madagascar.
