Job Purpose
UNICEF Thailand frequently requires simultaneous interpretation services to facilitate effective communication during meetings, workshops, consultations, conferences, and other engagements conducted in both English and Thai. The purpose of this Terms of Reference (TOR) is to establish a roster of pre-qualified simultaneous interpreters who may be engaged on an as-needed basis during the roster validity period. This will enable timely and efficient recruitment when interpretation services are required, ensuring that UNICEF Thailand's diverse programmatic activities are effectively supported by high-quality interpretation, thereby contributing to the organization's mission of advocating for every child.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is to provide high-quality simultaneous interpretation services between English and Thai during various UNICEF Thailand events, including meetings, workshops, consultations, and conferences. This involves accurately conveying spoken information in real-time, ensuring clarity and fidelity to the original message. Interpreters will also be expected to provide interpretation through online platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams for virtual engagements. For in-person events, interpretation services will be delivered on-site. A key part of the role includes reviewing relevant background materials in advance to ensure a thorough understanding of the context and terminology. Additionally, consultants will coordinate with UNICEF focal points and event organizers to clarify interpretation requirements and event logistics, ensuring smooth execution. This role supports effective communication across diverse stakeholders and contributes to the successful implementation of UNICEF's programs in Thailand.
Work Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience providing simultaneous interpretation services in Thai and English. Demonstrated experience with virtual interpretation platforms is also required.
