Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this consultancy is to develop a foundational technical and scientific document for Sustainable Food System-Based Dietary Guidelines (GABSA) in Bolivia. This involves consolidating existing national and international evidence, identifying information gaps, and defining guiding principles tailored to the Bolivian context. The consultancy will provide the conceptual, technical, and scientific basis for the Plurinational State of Bolivia to initiate the development of life-course-based dietary guidelines. It aims to address the coexistence of multiple forms of malnutrition, including anemia, chronic malnutrition, overweight, obesity, and non-communicable diseases, by considering transformations in food consumption patterns, food environments, and food production and supply systems.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for analyzing and systematizing international scientific information on sustainable food systems, food environments, environmental sustainability and food, and experiences from countries that have developed Sustainable Food System-Based Dietary Guidelines. This includes identifying guiding principles for the GABSA. The consultant will also analyze and synthesize national evidence on the epidemiological and nutritional situation in Bolivia, including dietary patterns, food environments, availability and access to healthy foods, and the sustainability of food systems. A key responsibility is to identify information gaps and propose strategies for their resolution. The consultant must also review and integrate relevant national policies and regulations, such as the Law No. 775 on Promotion of Healthy Eating, and normative documents related to food, nutrition, food safety, and infant feeding. Furthermore, the consultant will consolidate all gathered information into a comprehensive technical-scientific framework for the development of life-course-based GABSA, ensuring alignment with recommendations from international organizations like FAO, WHO, and UNICEF.
