Organizational Context

UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, defend their rights, and help them fulfill their potential. The Caribbean Multi-Country Office (MCO) serves twelve English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean countries, focusing on equitable access to primary health care, learning, protection from violence, child poverty reduction, and resilience strengthening.

Job Purpose

The Advocacy & Communications Officer will play a crucial role in advancing results for children across the Caribbean region by developing and implementing strategic communication and advocacy initiatives. This position supports the UNICEF Caribbean MCO's efforts to address interconnected challenges faced by children, including learning losses, mental health concerns, violence, child poverty, and climate-related disasters. The officer will be instrumental in influencing policy, fostering technical expertise, and building strategic partnerships to promote children's rights and well-being. By translating the MCO's programme goals into tangible actions, the role contributes to strengthening systems and promoting regional cooperation to overcome persistent inequalities and vulnerabilities faced by children in Small Island Developing States.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement integrated advocacy and communication strategies aligned with UNICEF's global and regional priorities, focusing on the Caribbean MCO's three shared outcomes: equitable access to primary health care, learning and skills; protection of children from all forms of violence; and child poverty reduction and resilience strengthening. Create compelling content for various platforms (digital, print, media) to raise awareness about children's rights and UNICEF's work in the region, targeting diverse audiences including policymakers, partners, the public, and children themselves. Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, government counterparts, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to amplify advocacy messages and foster strategic partnerships. Monitor and analyze the media landscape and public discourse related to children's issues in the Caribbean, providing timely insights and recommendations for communication responses. Support the MCO in managing communications during emergencies and advocating for children's needs in humanitarian contexts. Contribute to the development of advocacy materials, policy briefs, and reports that highlight key challenges and propose solutions for children in the Caribbean. Ensure all communication activities adhere to UNICEF's brand guidelines, ethical standards, and quality assurance protocols. Collaborate with country offices and regional teams to ensure consistent messaging and effective implementation of communication strategies across the MCO.
