Organizational Context

UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to save children's lives, defend their rights, and help them fulfill their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. We work to make every child's right to survival, development, education, equality and non-discrimination a reality.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this consultancy is to engage one or more professionals to provide services for the review, editing, style correction, and writing of documents, materials, presentations, and publications. The objective is to ensure linguistic quality, narrative coherence, terminological consistency, and adherence to UNICEF's editorial standards. This will be achieved through Long-Term Agreements (LTAs) for services, establishing a framework for ongoing collaboration. These agreements will be non-binding, meaning they do not commit UNICEF to purchasing services but rather set the terms for potential future engagements. The LTAs will define a fixed validity period, fixed terms of reference, and fixed unit prices, ensuring clarity and predictability for both parties involved in the service provision.

Responsibilities

The contracted professional will be responsible for ensuring that all delivered materials meet UNICEF's standards and policies, including the use of inclusive language and a gender-responsive approach. This involves meticulously checking for correct terminology and phrasing, ensuring the style is appropriate for the intended audience. The professional must guarantee the logical flow, completeness, and relevance of texts, as well as readability and internal consistency with previous UNICEF documents and publications. Key tasks include performing thorough proofreading for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors, and identifying any ambiguous or unclear statements made by the author. Accuracy of references, sources, and consulted documents must be verified against APA standards. The professional will also review the final, laid-out product to ensure it is publication-ready. Deliverables include documents, materials, presentations, and publications requiring review, editing, correction, and writing, with specifications on word count, original source, format, and delivery dates provided by UNICEF. The professional must ensure grammatical flow, coherence, and document structure, while also reviewing style, format, and layout consistency.

Work Experience

A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in editing, proofreading, style correction, and content writing for official documents, publications, or communication materials is required. Experience working with international organizations, particularly UN agencies, is an asset.
