Organizational Context
UNICEF has been working in Cameroon since 1975 to ensure women and children realize their rights to development. The organization provides financial and technical support across Health, HIV/AIDS, Water-sanitation-Hygiene, nutrition, education, child protection, and social inclusion, focusing on the most vulnerable and excluded families.
Job Purpose
The UNICEF internship program aims to provide practical work experience to eligible undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students, enhancing their educational journey while contributing to UNICEF's mission. This internship will expose interns to the work of UNICEF and provide offices with the assistance of qualified students specializing in various professional Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) domains. The intern position is designed to support the Cameroon SBC strategy, facilitating increased engagement and participation from targeted groups and ensuring better utilization of available services to achieve results for children.
Responsibilities
Interns will be deployed across UNICEF Cameroon offices in Yaoundé, Douala, Buea, Maroua, Bertoua, and Ngaoundéré. Working closely with international and national UN Volunteers, interns will contribute to strengthening community engagement efforts in Child-Friendly Municipalities. Key responsibilities include supporting the expansion of Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP), facilitating the expansion of birth registration initiatives, and contributing to the implementation of programs aimed at preventing child marriage. Interns will also assist in demand generation, community engagement, behavior insight, and social and community listening activities to reinforce UNICEF’s leadership as a credible voice for and with children. They will provide operational and programmatic support to SBC activities, contributing to the effective and efficient use of available services in both humanitarian and development contexts.
