Job Purpose
The International Climate Policy Consultant will provide technical expertise to UNICEF PNG, the Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA), and relevant Government sectors in Papua New Guinea. The role involves strengthening the understanding and application of global climate change frameworks and processes, and their implications for national climate policy and implementation. This consultancy will support the 'Climate Action for the Last Mile in Papua New Guinea' programme, funded by KOICA, which aims to enhance climate resilience for children and communities through climate-smart social services and infrastructure. The consultant will contribute to national priorities in climate change adaptation and resilience, with a focus on vulnerable populations and children.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager, Climate and Sustainable Environment, the consultant will provide expert technical assistance to UNICEF PNG, the Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA), and relevant Government sectors. Key responsibilities include enhancing the understanding and application of global climate change frameworks and processes, and their implications for national climate policy and implementation in Papua New Guinea. The consultant will also be responsible for capacity building activities for CCDA and relevant Government sectors. This includes providing technical support for Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). Furthermore, the role involves connecting youth perspectives with national climate policy frameworks and processes, ensuring that the needs and voices of young people are integrated into climate policy development and implementation. The consultant will contribute to strengthening climate resilience of children and their communities through climate-smart social services and infrastructure.
Work Experience
At least ten (10) years of relevant professional experience in climate change adaptation, climate policy, and/or sustainable development. Extensive knowledge of international climate change policy and adaptation frameworks is required.
