Job Purpose

The WASH Officer, NO-2, will play a key role in supporting the Country Programme in Comoros, where WASH is a significant part of UNICEF's initiatives. Reporting to the Health Specialist (Team Leader for health and nutrition including Wash section), the officer will provide technical, operational, and administrative support throughout all stages of the WASH programme. This includes preparing, managing, and executing a wide range of tasks contributing to the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of WASH-related results within the country programme. The role supports the full WASH programme cycle, from evidence-based design and planning to implementation, monitoring, and reporting. It ensures quality delivery of WASH interventions, strengthens coordination with partners, and promotes innovation, learning, and capacity building to improve programme effectiveness and sustainability, including humanitarian WASH preparedness and response.

Responsibilities

Provide technical, operational, and administrative support throughout all stages of the WASH programme cycle. Prepare, manage, and execute technical and administrative tasks for the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of WASH results. Support evidence-based programme design and planning. Assist in the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of WASH interventions. Ensure quality delivery of WASH interventions and compliance with organizational procedures. Strengthen coordination with government, UN agencies, NGOs, and other partners. Contribute to humanitarian WASH preparedness and response efforts. Promote innovation, learning, and capacity building among staff and partners to enhance programme effectiveness and sustainability. Support the development of WASH strategies and work plans aligned with country and global goals. Monitor and analyze WASH sector trends and challenges to inform programme adjustments. Ensure timely and accurate reporting on WASH programme activities and results. Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices within the WASH sector.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in WASH programming, public health, or a related field is required. Experience in programme planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation is essential. Experience working in developing countries or humanitarian contexts is an asset.
