Organizational Context

WASH is a major component, addressing urgent needs from displacement and outbreaks while supporting restoration and resilience.

Job Purpose

The Chief WASH (P-5) reports to the Deputy Representative Programme, overseeing all stages of the WASH program from strategic planning to results delivery. This role involves leading and managing the WASH team, ensuring the achievement of WASH outcome and output results in alignment with plans, results-based management, UNICEF's Strategic Plan, and performance standards. The Chief WASH is accountable for the effective implementation and management of WASH initiatives within UNICEF Sudan's humanitarian and country program response, adapting to changing conditions and resource limitations while focusing on critical needs and long-term resilience.

Responsibilities

The Chief WASH is responsible for the strategic planning, formulation, and implementation of the WASH programme in UNICEF Sudan. This includes managing and supervising all phases of the programme cycle, ensuring the achievement of outcome and output results according to plans and UNICEF's strategic objectives. The role involves leading and managing the CO WASH team, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment. Key responsibilities include developing programme strategies, mobilizing resources, building partnerships with government, NGOs, and other UN agencies, and ensuring effective coordination within the WASH cluster. The Chief WASH must adapt programmes to changing humanitarian needs, access constraints, and operating conditions, while managing significant resource limitations. They are accountable for ensuring that WASH interventions address large-scale urgent needs arising from displacement and disease outbreaks, and support the restoration of water and sanitation systems and the strengthening of resilience where feasible. This includes ensuring compliance with UNICEF's standards, performance expectations, and accountability framework.

Work Experience

A minimum of ten years of professional experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required. This includes at least two years of deployment in a developing country with proven team leadership abilities and at least two years of work experience in a humanitarian context.
