Job Purpose
The Venture Fund intern will provide direct support to the UNICEF Venture Fund team in its mission to identify, invest in, and learn from early-stage, open-source technology solutions that can positively impact children and communities. This internship offers practical experience across key Venture Fund workstreams, including sourcing potential startup investments, conducting thorough due diligence, and contributing to the fund's overall learning and portfolio management. The role is designed to immerse the intern in the dynamic world of impact investing and frontier technologies, offering a unique opportunity to understand how innovation can be harnessed to address critical needs for children globally.
Responsibilities
Support the sourcing and identification of promising early-stage, open-source technology startups for investment by the UNICEF Venture Fund. Conduct preliminary research and analysis on potential investment opportunities, assessing their alignment with the fund's mandate and impact goals for children. Assist in the due diligence process for selected startups, which may involve reviewing business plans, financial projections, technology assessments, and team capabilities. Contribute to the development of investment memos and presentations for the Venture Fund's investment committee. Help track and monitor the performance of existing portfolio companies, gathering data and insights on their progress and impact. Support the team in organizing and executing events, workshops, or knowledge-sharing sessions related to the Venture Fund's activities. Assist in maintaining and updating databases and records related to deal flow, investments, and portfolio management. Contribute to research on emerging technology trends and market landscapes relevant to the Venture Fund's investment thesis. Provide general administrative and logistical support to the Venture Fund team as needed to ensure smooth operations.
Work Experience
Previous internship or work experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, technology startups, or a related financial/analytical role is an asset. Familiarity with technology trends and startup ecosystems is beneficial.
