Job Purpose
The Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) Consultant will provide critical support to the National Department of Health (NDOH), UNICEF, and nutrition partners in preparing for and responding to the nutritional impacts of the El Niño-induced drought. This role is essential for strengthening the nutrition sector's coordination mechanisms, enhancing emergency preparedness and contingency planning, and improving nutrition surveillance and early warning systems. The consultant will also focus on building partner capacity and ensuring the effective delivery of nutrition services and supplies to affected populations. Furthermore, the position will contribute to the preparation of the national nutrition survey and bolster national and subnational capabilities for preventing, detecting, and managing acute malnutrition in children, ultimately facilitating a timely, evidence-based, and coordinated nutrition response.
Responsibilities
Support the National Department of Health (NDOH), UNICEF, and nutrition partners in preparing for and responding to the nutrition consequences of the El Niño-induced drought. Strengthen nutrition sector coordination, ensuring effective collaboration among all stakeholders. Enhance emergency preparedness and contingency planning for nutrition-related crises. Improve nutrition surveillance and early warning systems to enable timely detection of nutritional needs. Build the capacity of partners involved in nutrition response efforts. Facilitate the delivery of essential nutrition services and supplies to affected populations. Support the preparation and implementation of the national nutrition survey. Strengthen national and subnational capacity for the prevention, detection, and management of acute malnutrition among children. Ensure a timely, evidence-based, and coordinated nutrition response to prevent and treat acute malnutrition. Safeguard essential nutrition services during the El Niño-driven drought emergency. Contribute to the overall goal of improving child survival and well-being through effective nutrition interventions in emergency settings.
Work Experience
A minimum of eight years of professional experience in humanitarian response in developing countries is required, with expertise in nutrition in emergencies, emergency response, national nutrition survey planning and implementation, care for children with acute malnutrition, or maternal, infant, and child feeding in emergencies.
