Job Purpose

The Child Protection Officer will contribute to the design, implementation, and monitoring of child protection programmes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, focusing on the needs of children on the move and those in vulnerable situations. This role supports UNICEF's commitment to protecting children's rights, particularly in the context of irregular migration flows. The officer will work with partners to ensure the provision of essential protection services, including psychosocial support, legal guardianship, and safe spaces for children. A key aspect of the role involves supporting the transition to government ownership by building capacity in case management and best interest determination for relevant authorities and professionals.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the development and implementation of child protection strategies and programmes, with a focus on children on the move and vulnerable children in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Support the provision of 24/7 protection services for unaccompanied children and children in families, including mental health and psychosocial support, legal guardianship, and the operation of Child Friendly Spaces. Collaborate with partners, including government ministries and NGOs, to strengthen child protection systems and ensure the best interests of the child are paramount. Assist in the development and delivery of training programmes for professionals on case management, best interest determination, and child protection best practices. Monitor programme activities, collect data, and contribute to reporting on progress, challenges, and lessons learned. Support the transition of child protection responsibilities to national authorities through capacity building and policy development. Ensure adherence to UNICEF's policies, procedures, and standards in all aspects of programme implementation. Advocate for the rights and protection of children within the migration context.
