Job Purpose
The consultant will collaborate closely with the General Directorate of INDRAP and the UNICEF Niger Education Section to design and deliver a practical training program on editing and layout software for educational materials. This training will adopt a participatory, interactive, and results-oriented approach. The primary goal is to enhance the capacity of INDRAP agents in producing high-quality pedagogical materials, ensuring they can effectively utilize both proprietary and open-source software for design, layout, and print-ready file preparation. The consultant will guide participants through the entire process, from needs assessment to final evaluation, ensuring the acquired skills are directly applicable to their roles in educational material development.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct a rapid training needs assessment among participants, focusing on their roles in producing school textbooks and pedagogical materials. Based on this assessment, a detailed training program will be developed, outlining pedagogical objectives, schedule, content, materials, practical exercises, and evaluation methods. The consultant will create training modules and materials in French, tailored to INDRAP's context and participant profiles. Training will cover basic and advanced features of proprietary and open-source editing software, alongside principles of pedagogical layout for educational materials. Participants will be guided in professional document structuring and the integration of various visual elements. The consultant will also focus on enhancing participants' skills in graphic, editorial, and typographic consistency, and train them in preparing print-ready files, including technical standards and pre-press checks. Case studies and practical exercises using existing materials will be employed. Personalized support will be provided during the training, and acquired competencies will be evaluated through practical exercises and a final assessment. A comprehensive final report detailing the training's progress, outcomes, evaluation, challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations will be produced.
Work Experience
Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in editing, graphic design, professional layout, or production of pedagogical materials/school textbooks. Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering practical training on editing software (proprietary and/or open-source) is required. Experience in producing school textbooks or educational materials for print is a significant asset.
