Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this consultancy is to provide specialized support to the Child Protection, Development and Disability (CPDD) team within the Data and Analytics Section of the Office of Strategy and Evidence - Innocenti. The consultant will focus on Early Childhood Development (ECD) and specific child protection topics, including birth registration, violence against children, and children living outside of family care. This role is crucial for advancing UNICEF's mission to defend children's rights and help them fulfill their potential. Key responsibilities involve supporting the creation and production of data-driven products and publications, designing and advancing methodological work, and developing new data collection tools. Furthermore, the role entails undertaking and facilitating capacity-building efforts, leading outreach and dissemination initiatives, and offering crucial technical assistance to various countries. This support ensures the effective use and interpretation of data to inform programming and ultimately make a tangible difference in the lives of children globally.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for a range of critical tasks aimed at strengthening data-driven insights and capacity in child protection and early childhood development. This includes comprehensive data compilation, preparing draft charts, tables, and maps, and drafting accompanying key messages and technical notes for various publications. A significant part of the role involves drafting concise texts, meticulous fact-checking, and proofreading/reviewing data-driven publications during their design and layout stages to ensure accuracy and clarity. The consultant will also design and support methodological work, focusing on developing, validating, and launching innovative new data collection tools. Furthermore, they will design and actively promote the adoption and uptake of relevant statistical classifications across different contexts. A key responsibility is to undertake and facilitate capacity-building efforts, workshops, and initiatives to enhance data literacy and application among stakeholders. Finally, the consultant will provide essential technical assistance to countries, guiding them in the implementation of data activities and ensuring the effective use and interpretation of data to inform and strengthen programming.
Work Experience
At least 10 years of experience in data, statistics, and monitoring, preferably at the international level, including project management around data activities. Demonstrated experience in data compilation, analysis, content preparation for publications, and designing/implementing testing and validation of data collection instruments.
