This internship is based in Seoul, Republic of Korea, contributing to UNHCR's mission of safeguarding the rights and well-being of displaced populations worldwide. The role supports external relations efforts.
Job Purpose
The External Relations Intern will support the UNHCR Representation in the Republic of Korea in its efforts to engage with stakeholders, raise awareness about refugee issues, and mobilize support for UNHCR's mandate. This involves assisting in the development and implementation of communication strategies, organizing events, and managing relationships with partners. The intern will contribute to enhancing UNHCR's visibility and impact within the country, fostering a better understanding of refugee situations and advocating for the rights and needs of forcibly displaced persons. The role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in international relations, public diplomacy, and humanitarian advocacy within a leading UN agency.
Responsibilities
Assist in the planning and execution of external relations activities, including events, campaigns, and outreach initiatives aimed at raising public awareness and support for UNHCR's work. Support the development and dissemination of communication materials, such as press releases, social media content, website updates, and briefing notes, ensuring alignment with UNHCR's brand and messaging. Conduct research on relevant policy developments, stakeholder activities, and public opinion trends related to refugees and displacement in the Republic of Korea. Provide logistical and administrative support for meetings, workshops, and other engagements with government officials, civil society organizations, private sector partners, and media. Assist in managing and updating contact databases and stakeholder engagement records. Monitor media coverage and social media platforms for mentions of UNHCR and refugee-related issues, and contribute to situation reports. Support the drafting of proposals, reports, and other documents related to partnerships and resource mobilization. Contribute to the analysis of engagement strategies and provide recommendations for improvement. Undertake any other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the External Relations unit.
Work Experience
No prior work experience is required, but relevant volunteer experience or internships in communications, public relations, or international affairs is an asset.
