Organizational Context

The Women for Bees initiative, implemented by UNESCO's MAB Programme, empowers women beekeepers in biosphere reserves globally. It focuses on training, networking, and research, having successfully trained women in nine countries during its first phase. This phase produced valuable knowledge products and established a strong network of beekeepers. A second phase is now commencing to build upon these achievements and expand the initiative's reach and impact.

Job Purpose

The Community Manager Consultant will be responsible for advancing the project's knowledge products to their final stages and sustaining the engagement of the women beekeepers' network throughout the second phase. Key deliverables include the finalization of voluntary guidelines on sustainable beekeeping in biosphere reserves and the organization of an international beekeeping masterclass for participants. The role also involves maintaining communication with local partners and ensuring continuous community engagement across all project sites. This position is crucial for consolidating project outcomes and fostering ongoing collaboration and knowledge sharing within the beekeeping community.

Responsibilities

Provide technical input for the review cycle of the Sustainable Beekeeping Guidelines. Finalize the Guidelines manuscript to a review-ready standard, manage outreach to reviewers and co-authors, and integrate feedback. Collaborate with UNESCO's publications and web teams to develop a web-ready graphic publication and an executive summary. Follow up with local partners to support activities such as training, equipment provision, and sales, by contributing to collaboration agreements with beekeeping cooperatives and other institutions. Enhance communication outputs by improving communication tools and materials to support community activities, including the effective use of digital assets. Ensure continuity of community engagement across project sites.

Work Experience

A minimum of 4 years of experience in community building, network facilitation, or stakeholder engagement is necessary. Experience with international organizations, NGOs, or community-based projects, particularly in environmental conservation or sustainable development, is preferred. Background in beekeeping or pollination studies is required.

Skills

Strong facilitation and community engagement skills are essential. Excellent organizational abilities and the capacity to work independently while coordinating with multiple stakeholders are required. Proficient writing, communication, and presentation skills are necessary. Familiarity with digital communication tools, including social media and online collaboration platforms, is expected.
