Organizational Context
The International Program on Holocaust and Genocide Education (IPHGE), a joint initiative by UNESCO and the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, has been active in 30 countries since 2015. It aims to strengthen education about violent pasts, recognizing education's crucial role in helping societies confront complex histories, foster critical thinking, and build sustainable peace. For Latin America and the Caribbean, UNESCO is organizing a regional training event in Antigua, Guatemala, from November 16-19, 2026, bringing together over 30 educational policymakers from 14 countries.
Job Purpose
This consultancy focuses on the comprehensive management of the regional training event "Education for Violent Pasts" in Antigua, Guatemala. The objective is to ensure effective coordination between UNESCO, the Training Center of the Spanish Cooperation (CFCE-AECID), government institutions, and other allied organizations. The role involves overseeing all technical, logistical, and administrative aspects from the preparatory phase through to the final documentation delivery. The event aims to strengthen educational policies on violent pasts among policymakers from across Latin America and the Caribbean, leveraging Guatemala's experience with conflict resolution and peace education.
Responsibilities
The consultancy involves comprehensive event management across three phases. Pre-event (August - November 15, 2026) includes participant coordination, technical and logistical planning, arranging visits to memory sites, developing materials, managing travel processes, confirming venue availability, coordinating catering and transportation, and preparing identification, signage, and certificates. During the event (November 16-19, 2026), responsibilities include on-site coordination, participant support, ensuring agenda adherence, managing unforeseen issues, overseeing photographic and audiovisual documentation, and maintaining communication with UNESCO and CFCE-AECID teams. Post-event (from November 22, 2026) requires compiling audiovisual materials, preparing a final report detailing the event's development, challenges, and lessons learned, systematizing evaluations, and managing participant follow-up and departures.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in managing international events or projects for 50+ participants, such as festivals or seminars. Experience in agile frameworks (Kanban, Scrum), working with UN agencies, and developing communication materials, including audiovisual content. A minimum of 4 years in international cooperation or projects related to education, human rights, memory, and peace is also required.
Skills
Technical skills include proficiency in office software and design software (Canva, Adobe). Transferable skills encompass excellent coordination and communication abilities, capacity to work under pressure, strategic thinking, creativity, sensitivity to human rights and memory issues, and adaptability to multicultural environments. Special requirements include full-time availability during the event week, willingness to work on-site, and prior experience in cultural management in Guatemala.
