Job Purpose
The Digital Communications and Web Assistant will play a crucial role in enhancing TWAS's global impact through strategic communication initiatives and by building capacity in science communication. This position supports TWAS's objective to expand its reach and influence in global science and policy discussions. The role involves maintaining website standards, implementing improvements, and coordinating content to ensure effective dissemination of information and engagement with stakeholders worldwide. The assistant will also contribute to the development and maintenance of internal database infrastructure, supporting program implementation and donor-funded activities.
Responsibilities
The Digital Communications and Web Assistant will manage the technical operations and evolution of the TWAS website, monitoring hardware and software needs. This includes coordinating with external developers for website enhancements and overseeing project implementation, acting as the first point of contact for website malfunctions. The role involves managing the TWAS Online Forms platform, coordinating with developers for system improvements, and providing technical assistance to users. Additionally, the assistant will offer general technical support to TWAS staff on website and software applications, assess technical components for new projects, and produce website usage statistics reports using platforms like Google Analytics. The incumbent will also maintain and improve existing databases, create new ones as needed, manage archives, and produce/edit content for official reports and the website, including multimedia products. Graphic design and photo editing using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop are also key responsibilities, alongside liaising with TWAS Fellows regarding web platform usage.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant experience in public information, communications production, or website management is required. Experience in an international or multicultural setting is advantageous.
Skills
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential. Strong skills in specialized graphic design and editing software, HTML, Content Management Systems, Google Analytics, and website management are required. Excellent drafting, editorial, planning, and organizational skills with attention to detail are necessary. The ability to innovate, a results-focused approach, teamwork, knowledge sharing, and strong communication skills are also vital.
