Consultant UN Regional Coordination Officer for Latin America and the Caribbean
Organizational Context
UNESCO is committed to the UN Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG) reform to enhance UN field presence and support the 2030 Agenda. The organization actively contributes to reviewing the UN architecture and strengthening regional collaboration among UN entities in Latin America and the Caribbean. This role supports the UNESCO Regional Bureau in Santiago, ensuring UNESCO's full participation in the UN development system's joint cooperation efforts within the region, now known as the Regional Cooperation Platform (RCP).
Job Purpose
The UN Regional Coordination Officer will provide crucial support to the UNESCO Regional Bureau in Santiago, facilitating UNESCO's comprehensive engagement with the UN development system's joint cooperation initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean. This role is instrumental in ensuring UNESCO's strategic positioning as a key partner within the Regional Cooperation Platform (RCP). The incumbent will promote integrated approaches across the UN system within UNESCO's areas of competence, contributing to the effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This position is vital for strengthening UNESCO's participation in regional coordination mechanisms and aligning its country strategies with UN frameworks.
Responsibilities
The UN Regional Coordination Officer will liaise with the Regional Collaboration Platform Secretariat and map UNESCO's engagement opportunities within regional RCP initiatives, overseeing their implementation with relevant UNESCO offices in LAC. The role involves preparing and ensuring the Regional Office's participation in RCP coordination systems, processes, and meetings, including reviewing documentation, preparing inputs, and reporting on agreements. The incumbent will support the Regional Director in strategically positioning UNESCO within the RCP, promoting integrated approaches with the wider UN system, and developing support materials. Responsibilities also include supporting the review and implementation of RCP initiatives, collecting and disseminating information on UNSDG global collaboration, and assisting focal points in UN groups. Furthermore, the officer will aid field offices in integrating UNESCO into UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks (UNSDCFs) and aligning country strategies, support communication efforts, and contribute to strategic and programming documents for UNESCO leadership and governing bodies.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience is required in coordination, planning, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of activities, projects, or programmes. At least 2 of these years must have been acquired at the international level, specifically including experience within the Latin America and the Caribbean region.
