INTERNSHIP: Priority Africa and External Relations
Organizational Context
The Sector for Priority Africa and External Relations at UNESCO is dedicated to coordinating, liaising, and providing strategic policy advice to the Director General. Its work encompasses cooperation with Member States, the Global Priority Africa initiative, the UN system, Intergovernmental Organizations, National Commissions, and Goodwill Ambassadors, while also supporting Field Offices.
Job Purpose
This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience and support the Sector for Priority Africa and External Relations. The intern will assist in crucial coordination, liaison, information dissemination, and communication tasks. Key responsibilities include preparing draft documents for member states and partners, researching and analyzing information for briefings, supporting the coordination of contributions to statutory meetings, and drafting reports. The role also involves responding to queries to maintain strong working relationships with various stakeholders and assisting in the organization of meetings and events.
Responsibilities
The intern will prepare preliminary draft notes, memoranda, and letters for submission to member states, programme sectors, and potential partners. They will assist in researching and analyzing information for bilateral meeting briefings. A key duty involves supporting the coordination of the Sector's contributions to statutory meetings, such as the General Conference and Executive Board, and assisting in report drafting. The intern will also help manage inquiries by providing timely and accurate information, fostering relationships with delegations, programme sectors, central services, field offices, and partners. Additionally, they will assist in organizing meetings and events, provide technical support to the team, and update the Sector's intranet website with relevant information on member states and UNESCO events.
Work Experience

However, candidates are expected to possess excellent computer skills, proficiency in office software, and strong teamwork and communication abilities. An excellent command of English or French is required, with working knowledge of the other language being an asset.
