Organizational Context
The Division of Internal Oversight Services (IOS) at UNESCO Headquarters provides independent and objective assurance to the Director-General. IOS ensures that programmes are delivered efficiently and effectively, that strategic management information is reliable, and that continuous improvements are fostered to enhance the quality and impact of UNESCO's operations. IOS is responsible for planning and delivering internal audits, investigations, and evaluations of the Organization's activities, including field operations.
Job Purpose
Under the guidance of the Director of the Division of Internal Oversight Services and supervision of the Heads of Audit/Investigation/Evaluation Offices, the Intern will support the development of strategies to safeguard and protect the Organization's interests in pursuit of its goals. The Intern will collaborate closely with the Audit/Investigation/Evaluation team, adopting a client-oriented approach with high integrity, modeling UNESCO values. The role involves adhering to the Division's endeavors to promote accountability, professionalism, and a culture of learning and improvement. Activities will vary based on assignment requirements, with specific terms of reference and learning objectives forming part of the agreement. The intern will gain insights into UNESCO's structure, mandate, and oversight functions, experiencing the day-to-day working environment and developing research, writing, communication, and data analysis skills.
Responsibilities
Assist in conducting audits of selected operations at Headquarters, Field Offices, and Information Technology Systems. Gather audit evidence to formulate audit and research plans. Examine records, documents, and assets. Analyze financial and other data. Contribute to documenting audit findings and drafting audit reports. Develop internal methodologies, tools, and techniques for audit excellence. Follow up on management responses and the implementation of audit recommendations. Assist in planning, monitoring, and reporting. Support the development of policies and procedures for administrative investigations. Assess allegations of misconduct and irregularities. Review cases reported to IOS. Draft investigation-related documents, including plans, witness statements, and reports. Conduct interviews with subjects, complainants, or witnesses. Identify, collate, and analyze potential evidence, including open-source research. Edit and review investigation reports for accuracy. Support evaluation functions in assessing programme relevance, impact, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability, coherence, and performance. Assist in carrying out corporate evaluations, focusing on data collection, analysis, and presentation of findings. Provide technical backstopping for decentralized evaluations and liaise with Focal Points. Develop graphically designed reports and knowledge products for disseminating evaluation findings.
Work Experience
