AI in a Box fellow
Organizational Context
UNDP Senegal, in partnership with the UNDP Seoul Policy Centre, is piloting the AI in a Box initiative. This project deploys offline AI devices to digitize and intelligently search unstructured records for public institutions, overcoming data sovereignty and connectivity challenges. The Fellow will be the primary in-country implementation coordinator for this pilot, working with the Ministry of Justice in Dakar.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to serve as the primary in-country implementation coordinator for the AI in a Box pilot initiative in Senegal. This involves managing day-to-day relations with the Ministry of Justice, coordinating operational logistics, and tracking progress to ensure the successful deployment of AI-assisted extraction and indexing pipelines for judicial records. The Fellow will act as the key communication link between UNDP Senegal, the Ministry, and the USPC technical team, ensuring the pilot's objectives are met and contributing to the development of a shared playbook for future initiatives. The role requires a balance of project coordination and a foundational understanding of AI and data systems to effectively engage with technical teams and assess outputs.
Responsibilities
The Fellow will lead the day-to-day coordination of the AI in a Box pilot, ensuring timely pipeline deployment, data extraction, and system integration. This includes serving as the main point of contact, coordinating with government partners and the USPC technical team, and escalating issues as needed. The role involves troubleshooting technical challenges, identifying root causes, and implementing scalable solutions, as well as participating in platform enhancements. A significant part of the role involves monitoring implementation progress against milestones, maintaining regular reporting, and documenting operational lessons and context-specific adaptations for a shared playbook. The Fellow will also contribute to knowledge exchange within the AI in a Box community of practice and provide ad hoc support for AI and digital innovation initiatives within UNDP Senegal, fostering collaboration and capacity building.
Work Experience
While deep technical expertise is not required, familiarity with AI and data systems is necessary to engage meaningfully with technical teams and assess outputs. Experience working with the Senegalese public sector, particularly the judiciary, is advantageous. Strong coordination and organizational skills are crucial for managing multiple workstreams and stakeholder relationships. Proactive problem-solving and effective communication across technical and non-technical audiences are expected.
