National Project Coordinator for Masyarakat Hutan Adat
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global leader in fighting poverty, inequality, and climate change. The Forest Solution Realised/Masyarakat Hutan Adat (MHA) project in Indonesia aims to accelerate legal recognition of Customary Forests, strengthen governance, and support indigenous rights. This role sits within the Effective Governance department, reporting to the Democratic Governance Cluster Lead.
Job Purpose
The National Project Coordinator (NPC) for the Masyarakat Hutan Adat (MHA) project will serve as the lead technical capacity for the day-to-day substantive implementation of the project in Indonesia. This role involves close coordination with the Technical Coordinator, direct supervisor, and Team Leader HDRG to provide technical liaison and strategic responses to stakeholders, ensuring alignment with UNDP standards. The NPC will supervise the project support team and collaborate with programme and operations teams, government officials, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project execution. Key responsibilities include project quality assurance, operational issue management, and supporting regular monitoring activities to achieve project objectives and contribute to national climate goals.
Responsibilities
The National Project Coordinator (NPC) is responsible for managing and supervising the project team to ensure effective implementation and achievement of results. This includes coordinating daily activities, monitoring progress, managing risks, and capturing lessons learned. The role involves mobilizing goods and services, preparing Terms of Reference for consultants, and ensuring the quality of project inputs. The NPC will develop and update project Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in line with government and UNDP regulations, manage critical issues, troubleshoot problems, and develop solutions. They will also conduct regular monitoring to ensure targets are met, prepare high-quality progress reports, and lead the documentation of lessons learned for replication and up-scaling. Additionally, the NPC will foster strategic partnerships, support resource mobilization, facilitate knowledge building and management, and provide technical guidance to staff and partners, ensuring human rights and gender equality are prioritized.
Work Experience
Applicants with a Master's degree are not required to have professional work experience. Those with a Bachelor's degree must have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in forestry or environment at the national or international level. Experience in project management, supporting UNDP/UN-funded projects, and working with development partners and government on forestry/environment programs is highly desirable.
