Organizational Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Algeria is implementing an initiative in partnership with the General Directorate of Forests (DGF) and with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). This project aims to promote the restoration and sustainable forest management of the Aleppo Pine ecosystem. The role of Project Associate is based in Algiers and supports the execution of this initiative, working closely with the Nature, Climate, and Energy program team and the DGF.

Job Purpose

The Project Associate will support the execution and implementation of the "Restoration and Sustainable Forest Management of the Aleppo Pine Ecosystem in Algeria" initiative. This role is crucial for strengthening the resilience of Algerian forests against climate change impacts and ensuring sustainable natural resource management. The associate will work closely with the project's national coordinator, UNDP's Nature, Climate, and Energy team, and the General Directorate of Forests. Key contributions include supporting project management, ensuring efficient administrative and logistical services, assisting with procurement, and fostering knowledge sharing. Frequent travel to intervention areas is expected to ensure effective project delivery and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

The Project Associate will provide comprehensive support for project management and activity implementation. This includes contributing to annual work plans, assisting with budget preparation and financial monitoring, and ensuring compliance with UNDP and GEF financial rules. The role involves providing effective administrative and logistical support for project operations, including organizing meetings and events, maintaining filing systems, and managing contracts. The associate will also support procurement processes, including supplier prospecting and preparing terms of reference. Additionally, the role entails facilitating communication with national partners and UNDP units, preparing reports, and supporting the selection of project experts and consultants. The position requires ensuring timely delivery of goods and services, supporting audits, and contributing to knowledge sharing and best practices.

Work Experience

A minimum of six years of progressive experience in administration or project management with a high school diploma, or three years with a Bachelor's degree, is required. Proven experience in office administration, applying administrative/accounting procedures, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are essential. Experience in event organization, budget management, and reporting is also necessary.
