Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Peru is supporting the recognition process for the Pupuña Indigenous Reserve. This involves protecting the rights and territories of Indigenous Peoples in voluntary isolation and initial contact (PIACI) within the Amazonian forests. The role of Social Technical Assistant is crucial for this preparatory phase, providing specialized technical support.
Job Purpose
The Social Technical Assistant will provide specialized technical support during the preparatory phase for the recognition of the Pupuña Indigenous Reserve. This involves reviewing and systematizing social, anthropological, and territorial information, conducting preliminary social characterization, and identifying potential challenges for the recognition study. The role contributes to planning coordination strategies, ensuring the adequate execution of activities, and gathering essential data on social dynamics, territorial use, and population presence. The assistant will also support the analysis of collected information and the preparation of technical reports, ensuring the efficient functioning of the project and the organization's objectives related to indigenous rights and territorial protection.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Environment and Energy Programme Officer, the Social Technical Assistant will: - Review and systematize available social, anthropological, and territorial information regarding the Pupuña Indigenous Reserve application, identifying key data and gaps for the recognition study. - Support the preliminary social characterization of the area, including identifying communities, populations, organizations, social and institutional actors, and territorial dynamics. - Identify and monitor social, cultural, territorial, and logistical conditions that may affect the recognition study activities, proposing adaptation measures. - Assist in planning and organizing field visits to the reserve area, considering identified conditions and protection protocols for indigenous peoples. - Conduct periodic field visits for monitoring, recognition, and data collection on social and territorial aspects, including land use, activities, population movements, and stakeholder interactions. - Systematize and analyze collected social and territorial data, coordinating its integration into the anthropological and social analysis of the recognition study. - Prepare technical reports, summaries, and other documents detailing field activities, findings, and recommendations.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience with a secondary education, or two (2) years with a Bachelor's or university degree, is required. Experience should be in areas related to indigenous peoples, social management, territorial governance, or public management. Experience with indigenous peoples in isolation and initial contact (PIACI) is desirable.
