Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Benin seeks an Electrical Specialist to support its Innovation & Effectiveness department. This role will assist the office and projects in evaluating, designing, auditing, and overseeing electrical works, including solar installations and generator procurement. The specialist will report to the Operations Manager and Procurement Manager.
Job Purpose
The Electrical Specialist will provide expert support to UNDP office and projects in Benin, focusing on the evaluation, design, audit, and supervision of electrical works. This includes developing technical specifications for electrical systems, solar installations, and generator procurement, as well as preparing consultation documents and advising on selection processes. The role involves managing contractor relationships, conducting site visits, certifying payments, and ensuring final acceptance of works. The specialist will also contribute to defining best practices and bringing installations up to standard, producing technical specifications and final mission reports as key deliverables. This position is crucial for ensuring the effective implementation and quality of electrical and energy projects.
Responsibilities
The Electrical Specialist will be responsible for assisting the UNDP office and projects in the assessment, design, audit, and supervision of electrical works. Key duties include developing and amending technical specifications for electrical systems, solar installations, and generator procurement. The specialist will prepare consultation documents, provide advice and oversight during selection processes, and participate in preparatory meetings with potential and selected contractors. Responsibilities also encompass organizing periodic site visits, preparing progress reports, certifying contractor payments, and overseeing the final reception of works. Furthermore, the role involves evaluating existing installations for compliance and improvement, identifying and rectifying issues with electrical, solar, and air conditioning equipment, and defining best practices for UNDP installations. The specialist will also be expected to produce technical specifications and final mission reports.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of proven experience for Engineers, or 8 years for Master's degree holders, is required in similar electrical and energy works. Relevant professional experience in electrical and energy fields is essential. Experience in managing complex initiatives and projects, along with proficiency in using office software and architectural plan production tools, is also necessary.
