Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Central African Republic (CAR) supports the government's strategy to protect its exceptional forest heritage and combat poverty. The Environment, Energy, and Climate Change Unit (EE&CC) promotes sustainable development, renewable energy, biodiversity conservation, and climate finance. This role is part of a new project focused on Payments for Environmental Services (PSE) in Bangui and its surroundings, funded by CAFI.
Job Purpose
This role supports the implementation of the "PSE Bangui and its surroundings" project, aligning with UNDP's Country Programme Document and national development priorities. The Project Analyst will develop, manage, and analyze spatial and non-spatial data for project planning, monitoring, evaluation, and independent verification. Key contributions include operationalizing the CAFI PSE platform, ensuring data reliability, producing spatial analyses, and generating technical reports. The position is crucial for demonstrating the effectiveness of the PSE system in CAR and contributing to sustainable land and forest management, ultimately benefiting local communities and the environment.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain the project's spatial and non-spatial databases, including thematic maps, land registries, socio-economic data, and biophysical monitoring. Georeference and integrate enrollment data, ensuring proper archiving of parcel boundaries, community forests, and landscape blocks using GPS and satellite imagery. Organize data storage according to spatial data management standards and integrate data into the CAFI digital platform. Train field teams and aggregators on mobile data collection tools like KoboToolbox and GPS devices. Produce cartographic documents, visualizations, and spatial analyses for project monitoring and communication, covering activities like agroforestry and natural regeneration. Provide technical support for independent verification processes by preparing data and generating verifiable geospatial evidence. Ensure secure data backup, archiving, and accessibility for project partners.
Work Experience
The role requires expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and database management. Specific experience in developing and maintaining spatial and non-spatial databases, georeferencing data, using GPS and satellite imagery, and training users on data collection tools is expected. Experience with KoboToolbox and producing cartographic and analytical reports is also necessary.
