Organizational Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Central African Republic (CAR) supports the government's environmental and climate change policies. The Nature, Climate, and Energy unit focuses on renewable energy, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable forest management. This role is part of a project to implement Payments for Environmental Services (PES) in Bangui and its surroundings, funded by CAFI.

Job Purpose

The Project Analyst, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Database Management, will support the implementation of the "PES Bangui and its surroundings" project. This role is crucial for operationalizing the CAFI PES platform, ensuring data reliability, and producing technical reports. The analyst will manage spatial and non-spatial data for project planning, monitoring, evaluation, and independent verification, contributing to the UNDP Country Programme Document (CPD) and national development priorities related to environmental sustainability and climate resilience.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain the project's spatial and non-spatial databases, including designing thematic maps for planning, managing land registries, collecting socio-economic data, and ensuring biophysical monitoring. Georeference and integrate data from enrollment activities, archive spatial data according to recognized standards, and ensure data quality within the CAFI digital platform. Train field teams and aggregators on mobile data collection tools (KoboToolbox, GPS, tablets) and provide field coaching. Produce cartographic documents and visualization tools for project monitoring and communication, including spatial analyses for PES interventions. Provide technical support for independent verification processes, including data preparation and geospatial evidence. Ensure secure data backup, archiving, and sharing with project partners. Contribute to the GIS pillar activities and the broader Environment, Energy & Climate Change unit.

Work Experience

Candidates with a Master's degree in a relevant field are not required to have professional experience. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree must have at least two (2) years of professional experience in GIS, remote sensing, and database management applied to forestry, agriculture, or natural resource management.
