Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Congo-Brazzaville operates a joint UN medical facility to ensure the health and safety of UN personnel and their dependents. This facility provides primary, occupational, and emergency medical services. The role of the interim General Practitioner is to ensure continuity of care during the absence of the regular physician, supporting the UN Country Team (UNCT) and administered by UNDP.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this interim General Practitioner role is to provide full-time medical services to UN personnel and their dependents in Congo-Brazzaville, ensuring the continuity of care at the UN Clinic. This involves delivering high-quality medical consultations, emergency care, and preventive health services. The role also includes facilitating medical evacuations, collaborating with local health facilities, and contributing to occupational health and safety policies. The physician will play a crucial part in maintaining the well-being of UN staff, directly impacting their physical and mental health and their ability to perform their duties effectively. This position is temporary, filling a gap in service provision.
Responsibilities
The interim General Practitioner will provide comprehensive clinical services, including consultations, emergency care, and preventive health advice to UN staff and dependents. Responsibilities include managing acute emergencies, performing triage and stabilization, conducting medical examinations, and administering vaccinations. The role involves facilitating medical evacuations, coordinating with local and international health providers, and maintaining accurate confidential medical records. Additionally, the physician will supervise clinic support staff, manage medical supplies and equipment, and contribute to occupational health and safety initiatives. A key aspect is integrating gender sensitivity into medical services, ensuring equitable access to care, and managing cases of gender-based violence according to UN protocols. Reporting on clinic activities and collaborating with the UNCT and the UN Medical Director are also essential duties.
Work Experience
Experience in general practice is essential. Prior experience in an occupational health setting or with international organizations is desirable. Experience in managing emergencies and providing care in diverse settings is beneficial.
Skills
- Proficiency in French (perfect mastery).
- Knowledge of English is an asset.
- Proficiency in computer software (MS Word, MS Excel, internet navigation).
- Professionalism and strong planning/organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize, coordinate work plans, manage time effectively, and anticipate risks.
